IMAGES FOR "ALL THINGS CLEVELAND SHOW"

The All Things Cleveland show opens this Friday, November 14, 2008 at Asterisk Gallery in Tremont. Here's my statement and images for the exhibition.

In 2006, after I’d moved to Vegas, the Memphis Drive-in owners sold to American Greetings for reportedly $3 million, who in turn were supposed to turn it into some sort of green space for their employees, or at least that’s what I’ve been able to gather from the smattering of articles on the web. Well, it’s been two years and nothing’s been done with the site, you can check it out on Google Maps street view. It’s just plain depressing. You would think that an entity like AG would’ve, oh, I don’t know, possibly giving back to the community a bit by perhaps trying to revamp the place? Maybe cutting a bit of profit while also providing the community something to do besides “celebrate” fake holidays? Or is that Hallmark? They’re all the same to me.

It sparked these four pieces called American Cretins. A shout out to all those who decide to tear down in lieu of restoring and building up.

But who am I? All I know is that in a city where there’s not a whole lot of stuff to do or that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, the Memphis is sorely missed. I guess I moved to Vegas just in time.
