PICS FROM THE CROSS COUNTRY TRIP TO THE 2ND POWER

As soon as I'm able to get these pics offa my phone, you will see them posted.

It was an awesome journey and I feel different. Not transformed...changed. Transformed reminds me of something that has morphed but there was no morphing involved. It was sudden, like a full force kick to the sternum.

It changed me. I definitely changed me.

MEMORIES OF ANOTHER BADASS JOURNEY

DREAMING OF FRANCE

I had a KARAZAY dream that I was trying to get to France and kept coming across some stumbling block or another. It was very, very strange. At one point I was dressed in a pencil skirt and Hermes blouse (and some badass handbag that I will spend the rest of my days seeking out) but only had $1.50 to my name, with which I purchased a coffee only to have it knocked over by some clod in a hotel lobby. Everyone was yelling at this clod in French.

Cue next scene: Jerry Seinfeld takes me to the airport a day earlier than I needed and so I waited because I couldn't purchase my plane ticket until my unemployment check came through. My brother, Rob calls me and tells me that he's already purchased my ticket but then I start to panic about my passport. He says I don't need a passport these days and that my Nevada driver's license should suffice.

All of the sudden, I'm in a parking garage riding on the back of a motorcycle and there's snow everywhere. I run into David, someone I went to the Beaux-arts with and then all the sudden a slew of French friends are there and they're all singing Happy Birthday and I introduce them all to my dad. We are in the snow walking to the Ecole.

Then I'm back in some hotel and I can't seem to get rid of my phlegmy sinuses...that's when I woke up.

Weird, huh?

EXHIBITION...

Stay tuned for upcoming news on exhibiting the burrows series, titled "Las Vegas". I'm working on some installation work for the exhibit as well. Looking forward to sharing very soon.

In other, somewhat related news: I attended Tremont Art Walk on the 13th and man, it was awesome. "Held court" at Edison's, mainly on the back patio with friends I hadn't seen since I moved to Vegas in 2006. It's good to be back in a culturally rich city like Cleveland.

Took a gander at some studio space in Lakewood and got myself on the waiting list. SCHWING!

as you were.

THE TREK TAKES ME THROUGH...

I've been listening to the Into the Wild soundtrack since my drive through Oklahoma. These are two particularly poignant songs for me.

"The Myth we Live by is Greater than the Life we Live. Our Life is Greater than the Myth we Live, unless you have Eyes to See and Ears to Hear, that is.....reserved for the Very Few August Souls. Just as is must be." - Christopher McCandless

OPERATION PARE DOWN

So I'm paring down everything I own to find out what I should or should not bring and furniture is not making the cut. I didn't realize how hard it is to haul a couch by oneself in the high winds and cold weather.

Feh.

LEAVING LAS VEGAS or THE DESERT RAT RETURNETH

After long deliberation, I realized that being able to secure a job here in Vegas by January when school starts (an my unemployment runs out) in order to support myself was just not going to happen. So I'm outta here. There are more job opportunities in Cleveland than you can shake a stick at and one in particular that is for me.

Yes, you read that right. I'm leaving Las Vegas for Cleveland where there are jobs, an art museum that hasn't been closed by it's Board of Trustees, the Cleveland Orchestra, Great Lakes beer, family and oh yeah...jobs! Which says something good about the economy in Ohio, doesn't it? Not excited about lake effect snow but I will deal.

I'll certainly be returning to Vegas on a regular basis to research the desert, though.

PHILOSOPHY TO UPHOLD...

Put behind all that was not good in the past decade and move forward with the knowing that talent and knowledge are more important than fleeting outer beauty.

ARTIST STATEMENT ON BURROWS

The burrows series holds deep meaning and purpose in my evolution as an artist. It is my connection to and observation of the desert in which I reside. Burrows is everything Las Vegas and I am one of its spiders.
